Parking @ Winterbourne, Bristol BS36 1HT
Starting at Winterbourne, nr Bristol had high hopes for this walk. A stunning day with blue skies and now autumnal sunshine. Parked up and headed off on first footpath and came across these fly agaric mushrooms a stack of them growing under Silver birch trees.
Soon the first highlight of this Walk the well hidden Huckford Viaduct and River Frome.
Couldn't get a clean shot of the viaduct from this angle but get another chance at end of walk but viaduct was built in 1902 as part of the Wootton Bassett to Patchway railway line. It now forms part of the line from Bristol to Paddington station.
The viaduct rises to 100 feet above the river, and is made up of 11 massive brick arches. The Frome Valley Walkway passes through one of these arches. wiki
It's a mainly flat walk with views very sparse but the trees turning colours now and blue skies above it all looks great.
More Farmland
Trouble ahead . Our route should have carried on and cross railway but railway works going on and footpath closed !!!!
No signs or warning so had to backtrack and reroute costing us a extra 1.5 miles !
The title of walk (Frampton CottertRail) is a reference to Frampton Cotterel and Railways of which for most of the day we walk along side seeing High speed trains and small shuttle trains.
More trains and this one at the Oil Terminal, Westerleigh Railhead.
Still blue skies and this track runs behind the Rail terminal.
just feet from the M4 but a great looking path
The M4 hidden but noisy !
As we enter Henfield this strange but cool tribute to the Olympics !
Always good to walk across a golf course and this the Kendleshire Golf Club is massive !
Back to The Huckford Viaduct and a better view form this side looking good .
This from the course of the River Frome.
This from the River Frome and almost the end of walk following track back up past the mushrooms from this morning. Super day and a 7/10 a great walk worth the wander .
